The port is relatively generous, measuring 1 " to the top inside and wider than most Level 2-3 mouthpieces. The flat plate above the port is 1 " high and ¾" wide, rolled back to conform to the palate instead of sitting straight up. When the reins are engaged, this mouthpiece will rotate forward across the bars and lips, applying pressure to the palate. The pressure on the palate is distributed across the surface of the plate. Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

NO Independent Side Movement

Mouthpiece NOT Curved

Sweet Iron mouthpiece

Copper Inlay

Notes: The MB 13 is not designed for use by the casual rider. Its use requires a very experienced rider with excellent hand control and a horse that is very finished in his training who knows how to ride off seat and leg, as well as being very light on the rein aids. When palate pressure is applied properly, it causes the horse to drop his head but because the palate is so sensitive, that type of pressure needs to be used with great restraint. For a correctional cathedral, see the MB 29. For similar tongue relief, no palate pressure and Independent Side Movement, see the MB 33 or MB 16PB. For more tongue relief and no palate pressure, see the MB 16.

The Embossed Seven Shank is an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. This shank uses the combination of fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll. The cheek is embossed with a decorative floral pattern and concho. The mouthpiece attaches to the cheek with a square end that minimizes rein motion. The purchase is angled slightly away from the cheek to avoid rubbing.

Size: 8" overall

Action: Indirect

Discipline: Western

Degree of Leverage: Moderate
